Remember Harry Potter’s Moaning Myrtle? Here’s what Scots star Shirley Henderson looks like now aged 55

IT’S been almost 20 year since Shirley Henderson hit the big screen as Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter films.

The Scottish star was 36 years old when she took on the role of the teen Hogwarts ghost.

But her high, child-like voice, which she is famed for, made her the perfect choice to bring JK Rowling’s character to life.

Moaning Myrtle was a Muggle-born witch killed in 1943 by the Serpent of Slytherin, under the command of Tom Riddle, before he became better known as Lord Voldemort.

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Henderson’s Moaning Myrtle played a key role in helping Harry and Ron Weasley find the hidden chamber to rescue sister Ginny from near-death.

She returned to Harry’s aid in the fourth film, Goblet of Fire, when he struggled with a clue for the Triwizard Tournament.

Fans enjoyed her cheeky flirting with the Boy Who Lived as she spied in him in the bath.

Who is Shirley Henderson?

Shirley Henderson, 55, was born November 24, 1965, and was born in Forres, Moray.

Shirley is just 5ft tall and is known for her raspy, squeaky, childlike voice.

Her film roles include playing Gail in Trainspotting (1996), Jude in the three Bridget Jones films and Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).

Her other films include Topsy-Turvy (1999), Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself (2002), Frozen (2005), Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008), Anna Karenina (2012), and the Netflix film Okja (2017).

You may also recognise her from BBC’s The Nest series alongside Martin Compston, and ABC Murders, in which she played Rose Marbury.

Alongside several award nominations, she won the 2018 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Elizabeth in the original production of Girl from the North Country.

What new roles is she working on?

Henderson is set to appear in 2022 movie See How They Run alongside Saoirse Ronan – who auditioned to play Harry Potter’s Luna Lovegood.

The American mystery flick is directed by Tom George and also stars Sam Rockwell, David Oyelowo, Adrien Brody, Ruth Wilson, and Harris Dickinson.

And she’s got another movie hitting screens next year – British comedy The Trouble With Jessica, alongside Rufus Sewell, Olivia Williams, Indira Varma and Alan Tudyk.
